Maid of Iron by Olivia Wells

Maid of Iron is a devised theatre piece created by Olivia Wells inspired by words and text from women and Chanel Miller’s victim implant statement from the horrific Brock Turner case. It deals heavily with the topic of sexual assault. This piece was first preformed at the Women’s Conference for International Gender and Sexuality Studies hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma and then later at the University of Central Oklahoma’s Devised Theatre Festival on the day that Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed into the Supreme Court. It was a pleasure to work with such a great group of women.

From the Director Olivia Wells:

“It started as a devised piece for a conference that was my song of hope for the future of women in this country but in the six months since then, it’s become a fight song. Here’s what I hope you take from it:

1. Vote. It is imperative. You have to do it. Also, call your senators.

2. The Brett Kavanaugh’s of this world excuse the Brock Turners.

3. Believe women.”
